“Exploring Calligraphy by Koji Kakinuma” is to take place from 23 November 2013 until 2 March 2014 at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan.
Calligraphy (Shodo) is considered to be one of the pillars of Japanese art and culture.
Featuring a number of Kakinuma Koji’s calligraphic works, the exhibition considers contemporary developments in calligraphy, with the artist considering himself, both as a calligrapher and artist, whose works are nevertheless rooted in traditional practice.
The museum describes his approach as sincere, fresh, and full of vitality, and has expressed delight at having been able to exhibit calligraphy as a contemporary medium.
