Today is the French National Day, Bastille Day, which is in essence the French Independence Day. In 1789, the rebellious Parisians stormed the Bastille, the symbol of absolute monarchy and set seven of its prisoners free.
The 14th of July is considered to be the first day of the French Revolution. The day of storming the Bastille was proclaimed the national holiday on July 6th, 1880.
Sokolniki MEC and the team of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy congratulate Jean Larcher and French calligraphers with the Bastille Day!
