CHISEL AND BRUSH - an exhibition of peasant art of the Russian North and central regions from the private collection of the Mayakov family

The exhibition consists mainly of rare painted and carved spinning wheels, washboards, washing paddles, scutching knives and other beautifully crafted everyday objects such as chests, clay vessels korchagas, pouring vessels endovas, etc.

Philip Mayakov is a designer, artist, and collector. He started his collection in 2017. Like the artists of the 1960s, he got interested in the subject due to plein-air painting trips to the Russian North, only his first trips with his spouse and friends took place in 2015-2016.

Learning about nature and everyday life and studying semantics, he developed the desire to collect items, preserve and pass down the knowledge.

Two lectures will be held during the exhibition: at the opening and the night before closing.

The lectures will be devoted to the history of the objects, details of their acquisition and attribution.

During the lectures the entrance to the exhibition is free! Lecture entrance by donation. Your donation will help benefit and support the speakers.
