Carrying on the calligraphy tradition

More than 200 people from various age groups took part in The Summit CNY Calligraphy Competition 2016 in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

The competition comprised three categories, namely for primary and secondary schoolchildren and an open age group category.

Three experienced calligraphers from Calligrapher Association of Malaysia served as judges for the competition organized by The Summit Subang USJ.

Association treasurer Ng Joo Chay said the traditional art of calligraphy gathered everyone together to set the mood for Chinese New Year. He also said he was glad that many young participants turned up for the competition.

“It is important to keep the tradition of writing calligraphy using bamboo brush in the current generation as writing a Chinese character can be easily done using technological devices,” she said.
