Calligraphy exhibition at Johnson Birthplace Museum

The art of calligraphy will be on display as part of a special exhibition at the Johnson Birthplace Museum this summer.

'Lines of Beauty' is an exhibition by local artists from the Lichfield Calligraphers society, which features more than 40 works on display in interesting and surprising locations around the building.

It was officially opened by Lichfield Mayor, Norma Bacon.

The museum's Jo Wilson said: «We are delighted to welcome the calligraphers back to the Birthplace.»

«The skill and creativity demonstrated in their work is quite remarkable and displaying them around the Birthplace building brings new and exciting perspectives into the museum.»

Leader of the Lichfield Calligraphers, Peter Halliday, said: «Calligraphy is alive and flourishing in Lichfield. The group has been working on a number of diverse projects, many including the use of gold leaf and other decorative and beautiful ways of illuminating the words.»

The group's work will be on display until September and the museum is open daily from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
