Calligraphy exhibit on display at Back Mountain Memorial Library

The Calligraphers’ Guild of Northeastern Pennsylvania will display a collection of their calligraphy at the Back Mountain Memorial Library beginning Wednesday, July 6 and continuing throughout the month.

The Calligraphers’ Guild, formed in 1980, has a membership that includes both professional calligraphers as well as amateurs who do calligraphy as a hobby. Members come to the group from as far southwest as Shickshinny and Hazleton, and as far northeast as Scranton and Matamoras.

The aim of the Calligraphers’ Guild is to promote the study and practice of calligraphy as well as an appreciation of the history and application of calligraphy within the guild and community.

The Calligraphers’ Guild meets on Friday evenings at Marywood University. Special workshops are taught by either local or internationally renowned calligraphers and include topics such as layout and design, marbling, and papermaking.
