Calligraphy Contest Ended in Ho Chi Minh

On November 22, the Russian Center of Ho Chi Minh State Pedagogical University hosted the traditional “Russian Calligraphy” fall contest. This year it was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian poet Sergei Yesenin.

First-year students of the Russian language faculty had to choose one of Yesenin's poems proposed to them and rewrite it within 60 minutes, observing the spelling rules. The volume of the poem did not exceed 30 lines. Students chose such poems as “Blue May”, “The golden grove spoke...”, “A blue fire swept around”, and “Swan”.

Second to fifth-year students wrote essays on optional topics: “Why am I learning Russian?” and “What do I like about Russia?”

Considering that freshmen have been studying Russian for a little over a month, we can say that they coped with the task perfectly. We have selected three best works, the authors of which will receive certificates and prizes.

Two more works are worthy of an award. The fifth-year student Hua Thanh Huong wrote an excellent essay on the topic “Russia in my heart”, and the second-year student Nguyen Hoang Khang with “Why am I learning Russian?”

At the Faculty of Russian Language, Ho Chi Minh State Pedagogical University pays great attention to teaching Russian calligraphy in the first year, since we believe that correct and clear spelling of Russian letters, words and sentences, and correct text design (red line, observance of fields, spacing between words, etc.) contributes to the formation of calligraphic skills, which helps in learning.
