In the context of the International Museum Day Bukhara launched a new museum with the History of the Art of Calligraphy of Bukhara exposition. Its architectural heritage spanning from the 9th to early 20th century, Bukhara rightfully bears the name of one of the oldest cities of Uzbekistan.
The exposition was opened after years of meticulous research and collection of manuscript artifacts. The museum-reserve team also selected some of the calligraphic masterpieces of the 9th-20th centuries from the museum’s holdings that harbor 5985 items up to date. These holdings comprise 1743 handwritten, lithographed, and printed books; 3570 handwritten documents; 672 kitas, mufradots, etc. The new exposition features Akhmad Danish’s Rare Events (a 1881 manuscript), Mirza Azim Sami’s personal letters and archives (a 19th century enlightener), a 16th century Waqf document, 8th — 20th centuries calligraphy pieces.
