Artistic strokes of Chinese heritage

The Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF), together with Tsinghua University from Beijing, China and Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR), recently organised a calligraphy competition to promote Chinese art and culture in Malaysia.

The Lion-Parkson Tsinghua calligraphy competition 2016 at the UTAR Campus in Bandar Sungai Long attracted more than 150 participants from across the country and also from Japan and China.

The oldest participant was a 75-year-old man from Johor.

The competition was launched by Senator Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung, who is Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP) chairman and UTAR council member.

The competition was divided into two categories — one for Malaysian students and another for the public aged 18 and above.

The shortlisted calligraphy pieces from the competition will be sent to Tsinghua University in Beijing for the final selection of winners.

There will be 20 winners with 10 from each category.

The top five winners from each category will be invited to attend a four-day calligraphy workshop and awards presentation ceremony at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in April.
