On April the 10th at 7 pm the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will hold an Arabic calligraphy workshop for beginners. Artist, mosaicist and calligrapher Naylya Lotfi will introduce Arabic culture and alphabet, and outline key styles and principles to create a script composition. Contemporary Arabic calligraphy is infused with design, creating a unified stylistic image.
Arabic culture has come a long way of development, synthesizing achievements of the Arabic, but also Chaldean, Persian and Central Asian cultures, as well as the antique heritage. Calligraphy or the art of fine writing is a prime art for the Muslim world, which invented a plethora of handwriting manners. A handwritten text is treated as a piece of art on its own, with such a respectable attitude to the word image rooted in Islam.
The workshop will offer a 2-hour dive into the authentic world of Arabic calligraphy. All materials and tools to be provided.
