Arab Calligraphy Contest Hits Kazan

On March 14, 2013 the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Bashkortostan will launch an Arab calligraphy contest. The jury board will feature such eminent calligraphers as Najip Nakkash and Ramil Nasybullov, director of the Centre of Calligraphy under the Russian Islamic University (Kazan). The goal of the event is to promote this art, as well as Arab writing in general.

The contest is divided into three stages: first – inscribing the given sample in various scripts, second – an original impromptu calligraphic composition, third – distinguishing a calligraphic composition. Some preliminarily submitted works will also be evaluated. At the end a workshop by professional calligraphers will be conducted.
