However far apart the ancient art of Arabic calligraphy and the modern street art of graffiti should stand, for El Seed they are one. The 31 year old Tunisian artist has elaborated his own Arabic street art style, that he calls calligraffiti. Calligraphity is applied to decorate Tunis tallest minarets with verses from the Holy Koran. The leitmotif of the compositions is an appeal to tolerance.
Up to date El Seed’s most important creation is minaret decoration of the Djara Mosque of the artist’s home town of Gabes. His «fresco» is 470 square metre, it covers the minaret’s two sides.
