An exhibition of calligraphy at the Tulare Historical Museum

Springville artist Joy Harvey says she takes a relaxed approach to calligraphy works and paintings, despite a paper-thin margin of error for painters.

«You need quite a lot of self-discipline to complete a piece,» says Harvey, whose works will be on display at the Tulare Historical Museum starting Thursday, «I was first introduced to Asian and Chinese artwork while attending college. Decades later, after attending many classes, taking many trips, and completing several works of art, calligraphy remains my greatest love.»

«A true calligrapher should always bear in mind strict rules and guidelines to abide by in every work. However, I prefer the golden mean, don’t want to overstrain inspiration,» she smiled.
