On September 2, 2010 a press briefing on the forthcoming opening of the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy was held in the new mobile pavilion built on the territory of Yaroslav's Court. The event was attended by Aleksandr Gabitov, the First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region, Olga Popova, Chairman of the Committee of Culture and Youth Policy of Veliky Novgorod, and Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy.
The press briefing was opened by Olga Soboleva, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Culture, Tourism, and Archives of Novgorod Region who briefly told reporters about the project, presented the guests on the podium and gave each of them the floor.
Aleksandr Gabitov noted that Veliky Novgorod will host such a unique project for the first time, and on behalf of S.G. Mitin, Governor of the Novgorod Region, expressed his deep gratitude to the organizers. Olga Popova talked about the help of MVK International Exhibition Company in the preparing of the concert program, and also recalled that on September 11-12 the exhibition will feature the Museum Night project to be held together with the Novgorod State United Museum Reserve.
Then Alexey Shaburov took the floor and answered questions from journalists for the next half-hour. The Project’s General Manager noted that the venue of the exhibition was not chosen by chance, since the writing was born in Veliky Novgorod and the first birch bark manuscripts were also found in this area. According to Alexey Shaburov, calligraphic paintings, materials and tools for handwriting, exhibits from the Guinness World Records will be presented at the exhibition.
Alexey spoke about some unique exhibits, which visitors can admire there – the Golden Quran, the World Famous Mezuzah, and the first handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The Project’s General Manager noted that Veliky Novgorod is an extraordinarily beautiful city and the opportunity to present the exhibition there was approved by the whole team of the project. With the help of mass media Alexey Shaburov invited all residents and guests of the city to the exhibition, promising an unforgettable experience.
We’d like to remind you that the official opening of the III International Calligraphy Exhibition will take place at 03:00 pm on September 10 on a stage in front of the main pavilion; on September 1-9 a presentation pavilion will be working in Yaroslav's Court, where you can already get acquainted with some copies of masterpieces.
Calligraphy is the art of both ideal writing and an ideal soul.
