A master from a village near Krasnoyarsk creates gold calligraphy nibs

A craftsman has settled down in a village in Kuraginsky district to create writing nibs of precious metals. Before moving to Krasnoyarsk region Andrey Teplov had lived in Yekaterinburg and worked in a gold and platinum company and at the same time in an orchestra. He had even performed on one stage with the renowned cello player Mstislav Rostropovich.

The goldsmith and musician explained that he couldn’t find enough time for his craft in Yekaterinburg, so he decided to move to Siberia. Now he creates his works right on his kitchen table. Sometimes one piece takes several weeks; sometimes it is completed in a couple of days. Every nib is unique with its ornaments and sighs; some of them are incrusted with precious stones.

“For example, I like Russian MIG aircrafts, so I’ve made a nib that resembles one. It is shaped like a beak, and the function is not purely aesthetic: it also serves as the ink reservoir”, sais Teplov.

The manual production has not yet been brought to line but there are already several customers, among them local writers and artists and one high profile official.

According to the master’s wife Irina, a neighbor has borrowed a nib to test it and now refuses to give it back, promising to give something I return. Being a writer, he really enjoyes writing his stories with the nib.

Now the goldsmith is thinking on a new shape of a ruby-pointed nib which won’t wear off in writing.
