On October 14th, Sokolniki Park, Moscow saw opening of the 2nd International Exhibition of Calligraphy scheduled to run through November 14th in a five hundred square metre two-storey mobile pavilion displaying one thousand three hundred of most interesting exhibits. The exposition is divided into theme sections, which gradually unveil the evolution of writing of different nations, states, and religious trends.
Here you will find masterpieces from thirty three countries: books on calligraphy; rare, ancient, miniature, single-copy handwritten books; the draft of the illustrated handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation (a gift to Dmitry Medvedev from Silvio Berlusconi); and the first handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The exhibition will also feature the Sacred Calligraphy Collection brought to you by the National Union of Calligraphers. The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy proudly presents a World Famous Mezuzah by Avraham Borshevsky, a parchment chef d’oeuvre listed in the Guinness World Records.
The exhibition has already been visited by: Barbara Calzolari, Pope Benedict XVI’s calligrapher; Nja Mahdaoui, UNESCO calligrapher, artist of the Arab sheikhs; Chen Wenfu, member of the Chinese Scientific Union of Antithetical Couplets, and Massimo Polello, President of Turin calligraphers' guild Dal Segno alla Scrittura, teacher of the International Centre for Calligraphy Arts in Rome (CIAC).
This event is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and UNESCO.
