Moscow, August 10th, Ria Novosti. This Friday, Russia’s only Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy at Sokolniki Exhibition and Culture Centre celebrates its first anniversary and showcases a World Famous Mezuzah, a museum’s spokesperson told RIA Novosti.
“Currently, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s collection features outstanding calligraphic chefs d’oeuvre by eminent artists from across the world. The collection receives new arrivals on a regular basis,” our source said. The museum exhibits feature the first and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Israeli Declaration of Independence, Not a Day Without a Line calligraphy scroll, the Decalogue (aka The Ten Commandments), and many other works of art from the four corners of the earth. Within its first year, the museum participated in the Days of Slavic Writing and Culture, the Sakura Festival of Japanese Culture, organized the Mystery of the World’s Calligraphy special exposition, and organized numerous master-classes featuring renowned calligraphers.
“Russia’s first museum dedicated to the art of beautiful handwriting has already made good progress, i.e. it has been certified as an ICOM member,” the spokesperson mentioned. New exhibits will be presented at the museum’s birthday party, e.g. the World Famous Mezuzah, a chef d’oeuvre of sacred calligraphy listed into the Guinness World Records previously kept in a private collection in Jerusalem, will be displayed in public for the very first time. The mezuzah is an ancient Hebrew parchment scroll with a three-thousand-year old history. Currently, it is the most widely spread manuscript in the world. The World Famous Mezuzah was created by Avraham Borshevsky, a renowned Israeli calligrapher and artist. The masterpiece will be specially delivered to Moscow from the Holy Land to be premiered to the Russian audience. This sacred artifact has been highly acclaimed by Israel’s leading spiritual and academic authorities as a chef d’oeuvre of national calligraphy and has become the only item of contemporary calligraphy listed into the Guinness World Records. The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will be displaying the World Famous Mezuzah from August 14th to November 14th.
The museum’s birthday will feature a grand opening ceremony attended by the project’s partners and friends, i.e. famous calligraphers, diplomats, cultural figures, and accredited journalists.
After the official part, everyone is welcome to enjoy the refined exhibits.
