Biography

Oksana Vladimirovna Zherbanova was born in 1978 in the Irkutsk region. A calligrapher, founder and head of the Mongolian calligraphy studio “Haraasgai", which translates as "swallow".

Graduate of the Centre of Mongolian writing and calligraphy "Bichig Soyol", Mongolia, Ulanbaatar, member of the International Association of Mongolian calligraphers, member of the Centre of Mongolian calligraphy "Tengaryin Beshag", Republic of Buryatia, member of the Union of Artists of Russia, participant of more than 15 international exhibitions, organiser and co-organiser of the exhibitions "Magtaal", Irkutsk, 2019; "Times connecting thread", 2022, St. Petersburg; "Haraasgain niidelge", 2023, Irkutsk.

Winner of the prestigious Presidential International Competition of Mongolian calligraphy "Menh tengeriin bichig", 2021, Mongolia.

Winner of the contest "Talents and Traditions", St. Petersburg, 2021.

Participant of the International Calligraphic Biennale in Dubai, 2023.

In the field of calligraphy Oksana is engaged in preservation, popularization of traditional Mongolian writing, calligraphy, which is an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO since 2013.

The Mongolian script is used by Mongolian people in Mongolia, China, and Russia. In Russia, this unique vertical script was practically lost and is now being revived bit by bit thanks to the efforts of enthusiasts.

Oksana conducts masterclasses, lectures, classes in person (in St. Petersburg) and online.

The works are kept in private collections in Russia and abroad, as well as in museums.

60 x 90 cm. Rice paper, brush, ink. Blue ink symbolises the purity of Lake Baikal, with an outline of the lake embedded in the Mongolian ligature pattern.
