Biography
Rosie Huart is a mixed media artist, poet, calligrapher, papermaker and educator. She graduated from the University of Dayton with degrees in both art and psychology. For nearly twenty years she was co-owner of a highly successful art gallery where she managed, implemented, and designed innovative programmes for the gallery, the community at large and several local colleges and universities. Her programmes and projects include “Evenings of Poetic Art”, the Red Paper Series for people with life threatening illnesses, and workshops for cancer survivors.
Huart trained in workshops with renowned calligraphers and papermakers, attended classes with master teachers, and participated in several international calligraphy conferences throughout the last 30 years. Since 2005 Huart has given much energy to teaching and conducting workshops throughout the United States, Italy, France and the Greek Isles. At present a 2016 workshop is being planned in France. Huart is primarily focused on calligraphy and mixed media, where she often incorporates poetry, gestural marks, and lettering into her artistic expressions. She has exhibited throughout the country and her work is in many public and private collections.
As an interdisciplinary artist and educator, Huart believes the making of art as a transformative process impacts the soul’s search for meaning. Her greatest inspiration comes from the power of words and is reflected in her poetry, painting, papermaking, calligraphy, and creative writing.
