Biography
Arash easily shuffles between traditional and contemporary styles of Arabic-Persian calligraphy and creates artworks in both of these styles. Having a background in design and painting, he crafts words, lines, textures, and colours to envision a mysterious, enchanting, and multi-faceted world that on the one hand has a Near Eastern identity, and on the other hand is very contemporary and aesthetically comprehensible worldwide . Arash is inspired by his master, S. V. Mousavi Jazayeri in creating his Kufic style calligraphic artworks.
Arash Shirinbab is an award winning artist and calligrapher. He is a recent graduate of California College of the Arts and has managed to be a successful blend of practicing artist, calligrapher, designer, and entrepreneur for the past ten years. Arash has participated in over 40 exhibitions in the US, Spain, France, Poland, Italy, Canada, and Iran including Associazione Culturale Day One in Italy, San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild in California, Triton Museum of Art in California, and the Kunsthaus-Berlin-Marbella Museum in Spain.
Arash is the co-founder and director of the Ziya Art Center in Berkeley and the national Society of Arabic Script Calligraphers in America and has led several art and calligraphy workshops, classes, and collaborative projects in the US. Arash moved to the US from Iran three years ago and in the course of a few years, has become a visible and active international artist and calligrapher in the Bay Area, California.
