An abstract from Peter Greenaway’s interview where he shares his impressions after visiting the International Exhibition of Calligraphy:
“There is no word and image cooperation in Western culture. I am sure that in Russia unlike Europe such tradition was brought about by the specific historical realia. Russia is a huge country which unites the tradition and culture of East and West. Thus, the International Exhibition of Calligraphy can not be held anywhere except Russia”.
When there are no words left, the meaning is still preserved.
