Russian calligraphy contest in Milan
On June 6, which is the Day of the Russian Language, the Russian Centre at the University of Milan announced a calligraphy contest. Obviously, graphical flaws don’t violate the language structure and are not considered language mistakes. So they are usually dismissed. However, it is hard to argue that Russian calligraphy forms an integral part of the Russian culture. That’s why the Russian Centre, aiming to arouse the students’ interest to fine and neat handwriting, decided to hold a calligraphy contest.
It’s not the first time that the University of Milan holds such an event. Last year a similar contest attracted 170 participants. It’s a fine tendency that not only students of the University but also those who study Russian on their own apply for the contest.
The calligraphy contest is open to everyone and is held in two stages.
The first stage is held from June 6 to July 6, 2016. It is the time to send in the works in the following nominations: “Word – Image”; “Mikhail Matusovsky’s poem “Where Does the Motherland Begin”; “The capital letter in a handwritten text”.
The second stage is held from September 6 to October 6, 2016. Over that period the contest committee, which includes Russian language professors from the University of Milan, studies the works and rates them.
The awarding ceremony will be held on the Freshman Day in November 2016.
The best artworks will be featured in a calligraphy exhibition.
