A textbook is a manual of instruction or a standard book in any branch of study. They are produced according to the demand of educational institutions. Textbooks are used in educational system and as manuals for self-tuition. They are composed with regard for educational level and age characteristics of the potential reader.
Explanatory dictionaries give the following definition of the word “a book”: A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A book produced in electronic format is known as an e-book.
When people could not write they passed knowledge from mouth to mouth. When writing systems were invented in ancient civilizations, nearly everything that could be written upon—stone, clay, tree bark, metal sheets—was used for writing.
The term “book printing” is applied in historical context and the dictionaries describe it as the process for reproducing text and image, typically with ink on paper using a printing press.
The printing was, so to say, invented two times: first in China and then in Europe in the Middle Ages.
