October 2009 will be marked with the start of a new project that is destined to become the first stage in realization of our new trends. The upcoming project – International Exhibition of Calligraphy – is being developed as a joint international initiative suggested by the National Union of Calligraphers, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and Sokolniki MEC.

The Project aims to revive the lost art of calligraphy in Russia, make it widely available and create conditions for its development.
International Exhibition of Calligraphy is an international culture and education project which is meant to demonstrate cultural and educating role of calligraphy in intellectual development of a personality.
The calligrapher’s artistic design is realized on the basis of the sign writing system, that reflects the ethnic and cultural-historical traditions of a nation. The new exposition “Mystery of Symbol” rests on artistic ground of aesthetic and informative diversity of the national schools of calligraphy.
Beside original artworks from 26 countries, the visitors will be able to enjoy calligraphic installations and performances, ancient manuscripts and rare letters, handwritten books and applied calligraphic art.
Calligraphers from different continents will show their skills at master classes, educating seminars and meetings.
The exposition “Mystery of Symbol” will include presentation of a new project: creation of a monument dedicated to the world writing systems which is planed to open in 2010 in Paris. It is a unique modular panel united by the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” (Out of many, one). It will be designed by the artists representing the UN member countries. The panel will represent the unity and manysidedness of the world cultural space. The project is planned to be held under the egis of UNESCO.
During the presentation the basic forms of various writing systems of the planet will be introduced to the audience.
