This entire text of The Tale of Igor's Campaign occupies only as much as a maple leaf. A copper plate with the full text of the timeless masterpiece, namely 18 thousand characters and illustrations to it, made by a well-known graphic and calligraphy artist Yuri Nozdrin, was donated to Yaroslavl museum-reserve.
The etching miniature means the characters and contours of the images were applied to a metal plate in the mirror image and then painted in watercolours post presswork. While the images are seen to a naked eye, the text can only be read using a high magnifying glass.
"Each print is unique and distinct. Every time illumination will have its subtle difference. This miniature presented to the museum by Yuri is a gorgeous and magnificent gift that can only range with the most valuable items of our collection ever", says Tatyana Gulina, keeper of the rare books fund in the museum.
