Day 2 of the First International Exhibition of Calligraphy: Master-classes and Lectures

The morning of Day 2 was saturated with events. Just imagine, the history of the global calligraphy art was unveiled to numerous visitors during a series of lectures and master classes run one after another with fifteen-minute breaks.

Hans Mairhofer, a well-known calligrapher from Germany gave a big picture of the two-thousand-year record of the European art of calligraphy and provided all visitors with comprehensive overview of the Fracture Type, a Gothic type, which was destined to become the national typesetting script of all publications issued in Germany.

Professor Pavel Semchenko ran a brief excursion into the history of world calligraphy. He illustrated his narration with demonstration of marvelous works that helped all visitors get a deeper understanding of the major milestones of this most beautiful of all arts.

Later this day, professor Shen Peifang, Administrative Director of the Shanghai Calligrapher Association, Director of the Chinese Canglang Calligraphy Society, our Chinese project participant, shared his sophisticated vision on the world of Chinese calligraphy, making exquisite allusions to classical music.

Traditionally crowded and thundered with applause, these lectures and master-classes do attract numerous people willing to take part in the discussions. We believe this is the best proof of the fact that calligraphy has not fallen into oblivion, but rose from the ashes like the legendary phoenix.
