Calligraphy is a materialized word (sound) as the fullest and most eloquent expression of one’s personal attitude to what has been said.
How did it all happen? “The word appeared the first…”. More words appeared later and started to be shown on stone, clay, papyrus etc. There is no need to say how spiritually, beautifully and originally the innumerable number of phrases and texts look in different languages and, consequently, in different scripts made before the printing machine appeared.
At present, calligraphy (a calligrapher and, even more so, a calligraphic exhibition) continues to fulfill the “word” and fill it with a descriptive sense, and it looks in the most distinct and significant way against the background of information computer typing with digital text (that is not always of good quality, both in terms of sense and content).
…I want to say “Hurrah!” but I managed to find a more suitable word that was written by Nabokov (I wonder what it looked like in the manuscript) and, of course, with respect to Vladimir Vladimirovich’s attitude to calligraphy; calligraphy is it not only a beautifully made word. So (I would like to think about calligraphy):
The eternity’s smile is innocent.
The blindmen’s world cannot be explained,
But all is clear to the sighted in the world,
And perhaps there is no star in the ether
will compare with it.
