Hello...

Hello...

…Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

The museum has celebrated its first anniversary displaying a World Famous Mezuzah, a unique calligraphy masterpiece, listed in the Guinness World Records.

What is this World Famous Mezuzah?

It is a text consisting of 713 letters of the Hebrew alphabet with extracts from the Torah. Traditionally, a mezuzah is kept in a special case and affixed to the doorframes of Jewish homes. Anyone entering touches it and receives a blessing. Our mezuzah features a respectable prefix “World Famous” because of its size, it measures 76 cm in width and 94 cm in length. It is the largest mezuzah in the world.

Why is it shown in a case?

Because it is a religious text! According to Hebrew tradition it is forbidden to take a mezuzah parchment out of its case. Actually, it is only a one hour-long display of the mezuzah. We put it on display to celebrate the museum’s first anniversary.

Do you mean to say the visitors will not be able to see the main exhibit?

I think, we will be demonstrating it from October 14th till November 14th during the autumn exhibition. Maybe we will take the mezuzah out of the case, just by way of exception.
