The Russian Poetry of Korean Calligraphy

Today, on March 15, 2013 the Oriental Calligraphy theme exhibition has opened at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. The Opening Ceremony was attended by official persons and the media. The better part of the exposition is dedicated to Korean calligraphy, in particular, to the chefs d’oeuvre of Kim Jong Chil, a famous calligraphy master, who was also personally attending and participating in the event.

The Opening Ceremony started with musical pieces. Aleksei Sokolov, international contests' prize-winner (accordion) and Denis Dronov (grand piano) tuned the audience into the right mood. Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and Yang Min Jong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre under the Embassy of the Republic of Korea delivered their welcoming addresses. Henceforth all eyes were glued to Kim Jong Chil, conducting a series of exclusive master-classes. The filming crews from city and federal TV-channels have been following the Korean master’s every move for an hour and a half.

Kim Jong Chil conducted a tour around his new solo exhibition, showing his works dedicated to Aleksandr Pushkin, Leo Tolstoi, Viktor Tsoi. The subtle combination of Russian Cyrillic letters and Korean syllabary characters in quotations has made an indelible impression on the guests. Kim Jong Chil’s feats were met with thunderous applause.

The Oriental Calligraphy exhibition will run until March 21 inclusive. Kim Jong Chil will conduct yet another special workshop this Sunday, on March 17 from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. We are waiting for you at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy!
