Pyotr Chobitko, President of the National Union of Calligraphers and Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy met with the staff of the Holy Synod Department for Church and Public Relations at the Danilov Monastery in Moscow. In the course of the meeting, they touched upon the large and exciting work, which had already been done in the context of the project plan.
Three calligraphic works of art created by the leading calligraphers of Russia, Israel and Jordan were demonstrated to the meeting participants. The works were far from being selected by chance: they were identical in meaning excerpts from the three Holy Scriptures of the three different religions: Orthodox Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Written in different languages and designed in various national styles they all demonstrate the spiritual communion of all nations on earth.
The presentation aroused meticulous attention and approval. The meeting participants also discussed possibility of partnership cooperation of the two organizations concerning moral and spiritual upbringing of the younger generation.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to organize the open competition in Orthodox Calligraphy in the context of the upcoming Second International Exhibition of Calligraphy (October 14 – November 14, 2009, Moscow). High professional level of the contest is secured but not limited to the fact that the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO will be supporting the show.
