A master class on ceramic calligraphy by Sergey Shikhachevsky was successfully held on the premises of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy last Sunday, on March 1st, 2015.
During the master class, the participants got to know about the history of ceramic calligraphy, learned the differences between the Latin and Cyrillic fonts. The participants of the master class also had a unique opportunity to try their hand at making calligraphy works using clay. One of the young participants was able to create his first icon at only 8 years old. The master will fire his clay icon to complete it and present it to him afterwards as a gift.
The uniqueness of Sergey Shikhachevsky’s master class is in the fact that nowadays we have very few ceramic icons and ceramic calligraphy is not widespread. Thus the art of ceramic calligraphy aroused keen interest among the guests of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy.
Other works by Sergey Shikhachevsky can be seen within the 5th International Exhibition of Calligraphy, which will be held from March 14th to April 12th, 2015.
