Some parent committees have already opposed the new discipline.
The Government of Finland decided to replace writing and calligraphy lessons at schools with the lessons on typing.
The first lessons in computer literacy for schoolchildren are to start in September 2016. They will still have writing lessons, but it will be enough just to be able to write the text in capital letters. Those who still want to learn calligraphy will be able to enroll in optional courses. Specialists offer to develop fine motor skills at the extra lessons on industrial arts.
Such innovation has already provoked displeasure among the representatives of some parent committees. Although the majority of Finns favourably accepted the news that the calligraphy lessons will be cancelled.
