Within the framework of the Year of Literature in Russia the City Methodological centre of the Moscow Department of Education will conduct the Shape Of The Letter calligraphy contest for the school students of the 6ths to 9ths grades.
The press service of the Moscow Department of Education announced that students of Moscow schools participating in the Shape Of The Letter will have a chance to try their hand in calligraphy and create an artwork following the traditions of Russian fine writing.
There will be three nominations for the participants to choose from. For the ‘Initial’ nomination they will have to create a colourful ornate picture of a capital letter that would fit one of the pieces studied over the school Literature course.
The ‘Caligram’ nomination calls for depicting an object or a concept with the help of the letters its name is composed of.
Those who choose the ‘Stylisation’ nomination will have to calligraphically write down a suggested phrase.
There is reference material for every nomination on the website of the City Methodological centre so that the students learn about the art of fine reading and the history of the Russian script.
The contest is held via correspondence. Applications, registration of the participants and artworks are accepted up to December 1st, 2015 via the e-mail: calligraphy@mosmetod.ru. Announcement of the results and the awarding ceremony will be held in January of 2016. There will be separate results for the two age categories: 5ths-6ths grades and 7ths-9ths grades.
