Reader's Diary exhibition

Between May 11 and June 11 Saint-Petersburg Museum of Printing holds a calligraphy exhibition by Vera Ilyina dubbed Reader's Diary.

Calligraphy as a fine writing art proves to be interesting and captivating activity. Artist Vera Ilyina offers her own view on this ancient form of art.

The exhibition demonstrates calligraphy Movie ABC Book that quickens your memory with dear and well known quotes from movies of various years, features Pushkin's lines as calligrams in Here's Pushkin Follows Suit series, as well as orphics, talented Lermontov's lines in scrolls, or the image of bird cherry in blossom that proves to be Yesenin’s verses upon closer view. The pieces dubbed Live and Blessing, which are a part of the Russian Writing series, will help recall the harmony of Old Slavonic, its sounds and rhythms, and will delight the eye with solemn uncial or ornate Russian cursive.

As the author reads the masterpieces by great writers and poets, she interprets them in her own image and in writing style from over the years, inviting to the fascinating world of calligraphy.

The exhibition’s agenda will also include workshops.
