citywide calligraphy marathon

The marathon was part of the celebration of the Day of Slavic Writing, says Galina Mamontova who is a member of the ‘Ladoga’ literary association.

The Day of Slavic Writing is traditionally celebrated in all of the Slavic countries on May 24th. Its aim is to honour the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Slavic alphabet.

«The marathon was organized in our town as part of the celebration the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. According to the terms, the participants were to put down in fine writing the lines from a poem by Peter Vyazemsky. The special letterforms could be obtained at the town’s library,» Mamontova says.

The distribution of awards for the winners took place in the municipal park on May 24th. The best calligraphic works were presented at the ‘Living Word’ exhibition in the local art gallery.
