New Year greeting card from our young calligraphers

Last Saturday, December 24th, was this year’s final class of the children's calligraphy course.

The class, unsurprisingly, was dedicated to the coming holidays: the students were to create New Year greeting cards. The teacher’s idea was that doing this, they should apply all the skills they have gained over the three months of studying pointed pen calligraphy. The kids were to create a greeting composition combining text and decorative elements, using pointed pen only. They showed a lot of enthusiasm in doing that, all the while keeping in mind Artyom Lebedev’s instructions on how to appropriately combine text and various decorative elements in a layout. As a result, each one created a wonderful New Year card arranged and signed in the pointed pen technique. Looking at the results, an adult might envy such craftsmanship!

Leaving the school for holidays, the students felt very satisfied taking their cards with them to present them to their parents or friends. Before leaving, they exchanged greetings and the best wishes for each other. The teacher praised all the students for good work; however, setting homework: over the holidays the kids are to practice lower case alphabet and write short rhymes. This didn’t scare them though: over the three months of studies everyone has well realized how important practice is when studying calligraphy.
