On February 9, 2013 Kyrgyz-Japanese Human Development Centre will host Calligraphy Day on occasion of the Oriental New Year celebrations.
«Kakizome is the first calligraphic inscription in the New Year. On this day, the Japanese traditionally gather in their temples and, mixing ink with first droplets from the sacred spring, put down their New Year wishes; most common words are «long life», «spring», «eternal youth», the centre’s staff explained.
According to the organizers, modern Japanese schoolchildren' homework for winter holidays is to write the Kakizome character. Then calligraphic wishes must be burnt. There is a popular belief that those, whose wish note ashes should rise higher into the sky, shall make progress in the art of calligraphy.
Kyrgyz-Japanese centre provides short-term calligraphy courses for everyone.
