In Memory of Jean Larcher

The world calligraphic community suffered a great loss. The life of an outstanding calligrapher of modernity and a great friend of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Jean Larcher, ended on January 17th, 2015.

All his life Jean Larcher was dedicated to the art of calligraphy. Since 1973, he was known as a painter-calligrapher not only in France but abroad as well. He developed more than 650 logos. As a guest artist, he gave master classes throughout Europe, Australia and the United States. Today, his works are represented not only in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, but also in many other museums and private collections all around the world. The last thing Jean Larcher had created before his death became a book he published in 2014. This work is dedicated to the artist’s art of calligraphy. The book was published under the editorship of his wife and friend Katharina Pieper.

Jean Larcher had been one of the most active participants of our project since the first day the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and the International Exhibition of Calligraphy were founded. The master’s artworks are always on display in the museum. Jean Larcher repeatedly held his unique lectures and master classes in the museum.

The management and staff of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy express their sincere condolences to Katharina Pieper, the wife and friend of Jean Larcher.

The memory of the outstanding master of calligraphy will always remain in our hearts.
