The St. Petersburg School of Calligraphy celebrated its first anniversary in 2010: in November, it was exactly five years from the date of its birth. The idea of creating a school of calligraphy was initiated and supported by the students of the Stieglitz Art and Industry Academy in Saint Petersburg. In 2005 the very initiative helped Pyotr Chobitko to create the first Russian School of Calligraphy under the Advanced Training Department of the Stieglitz Art and Industry Academy in Saint Petersburg, and to lay the foundations of the revival of Russian calligraphy.
The school's pupils participate in international exhibitions and events, dedicated to the opening of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and the celebration of the Days of Slavic Script, becoming a tradition both for the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, and for St. Petersburg School of Calligraphy. They are winners of the Holy Scripture in Calligraphyinternational competition, held within the framework of the II International exhibition of calligraphy-2009, Moscow; they took part in the youth exhibition of calligraphy, which was held in autumn of 2010 in Veliky Novgorod within the framework of the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy. The St. Petersburg School of Calligraphy provides classes for children and adults organized in accordance with P. Chobitko’s original programme and a training course for teachers on the art of calligraphy.
