Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy held Totalny Diktant

A thousand of Russian and international locations joined to host Totalny Diktant (Ultimate Dictation) on April 14. It is for the 2nd year in a row now the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy invites many participants to put their literacy and penmanship skills to the test. A plenty stepped forward, and some even wrote in pen and ink.

A renowned movie actor Vadim Michman read for the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy this year – following the rules, he would recite each sentence completely twice, intermitting with parts of it.

The text for Totalny Diktant 2018 is authored by a well-known Russian writer Guzel Yakhina. Three extracts, titled The Day, The Afternoon and The Night, narrating about one day of a German literature teacher, were picked to shape a traditionally complex and entertaining text with lots of punctuation. Yet the participants were up for it, listening and writing attentively, while keeping in mind all sorts of spelling and punctuation rules.

According to the event team, the last dictation revealed a lot of A graders, and hopefully the initiative this year will see even more.
