Calligraphy exhibit comes to Wausau

There's new writing on the walls at Marathon County Public Library.

A Chinese calligraphy exhibit has been rolling through colleges across the Midwest, and is now making a stop in Wausau. Created by two professors, Dr. SuiWah Chan and He BingWu, the exhibit stretches out over 3,000 years of history. This is the first time the library has brought a unique presentation around its bookshelves. It took over a year to orchestrate.

Marathon County Library's specialist Chad Dally planned the month-long exhibition. He's most excited to see the origins of calligraphy. «It's not often you get to see examples of writing that are several millennia old,» Dally said.

The panels also bring to light the dynasties and artists that influenced calligraphy's evolution. The exhibit is inspiring a hands-on calligraphy workshop, as well as several lectures later this month.
