Calligraphy contest in Kostroma Region has a winner

Tatiana Smirnova, the 11-grade school student of the Soligalich public school of the Kostroma Region, is the winner of the regional calligraphy contest.

The contest was held within the framework of the “Russian language is the language of cross-national, spiritual, and cultural exchange, friendship and unity” project. Contest participants were to arrange one of Alexander Pushkin’s poems on an A4 sheet. Working with a nib and ink, they could use readymade scripts or those designed by themselves, reports the Soligalich Vesti.

For her contest work, Tatiana selected the poem “I Loved You”. Her work was recognized as the best in quality and arrangement. “I have never practiced calligraphy or writing with a nib. My father instructed me on how to write with a pointed pen, which turned out to be quite a painstaking process. That’s why my victory was very unexpected for me,” says Tatiana.

Tatiana also adds: “Among the contest participants there were representatives of diverse nationalities: Dagestani, Azerbaijani, Moldovians, Gagauz, Ukrainians, Georgians, students from Mongolia, Mali, Angola. That day Pushkin’s poetry was recited in the Russian, Portuguese, French, Mongolian languages. A great many nationalities were united by the poet’s heritage. I really enjoyed communicating with the foreign fellow contestants over a friendly cup of tea. I believe that the organizers managed to translate their idea to every contest participant.
