Calligraphy Contest Held in Tehran

Calligraphy is considered to be one of the most eye-catching and fascinating manifestations of the Persian culture. The history of calligraphy in Iran dates back to the pre-Islam era.

In the latest event on this exquisite art, Bahman Cultural Center in the capital, Tehran, has held a calligraphy contest in which dozens of calligraphers have displayed their works for the visitors.

Gholamhosein Amirkhani is the most prominent contemporary master in Nas’taliq which is the most dominant style in Persian calligraphy. The 74-year-old master humbly believes that the young calligraphers must be considered as great wealth for Iran’s art and culture.

Such events are the best opportunities for young artists to be seen by the public, and to be able to make all the people in the world familiar with one of the most appreciated Persian arts — calligraphy.
