Calligraphy and Brain. Impact of Fine Motor Skills on Cortex Development, lecture by professor Sergey Savelyev

It's been known for many years that calligraphy is not only about aesthetics but also has a rewarding impact on development of certain brain regions. The art of calligraphy helps to develop fine motor skills, optical control, attention, precision and patience, contributes to concentration, improvement in short-term and conception memory. Writing process also activates unique nervous connections.

This huge and undisputable impact on development of the human brain will be the topic of Sergey Savelyev's talk to be held on September 8 at 19:00 as a part of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy. Sergey is a popular scholar, brain morphology and evolution expert with over 30 years of experience, head of nervous system development laboratory in Scientific and Research Institute of Human Morphology, Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations (the Russian Academy of Sciences). Sergey will go into detail describing the meaning of writing and the impact of its graphic representation on the brain, and the need to teach kids penmanship and calligraphy as one of the key pedagogical methods to differentiate specialized brain centres.
