Znaki, a calligraphy and pen-and-ink painting school, has opened an anniversary exhibition in the Youth Library of Chitay-Gorod business centre on November 8 at 18:00.
Mikhail Danilov, the school manager, spoke about calligraphy at the opening ceremony demonstrating students’ works as examples. Also all attendees could get their names in calligraphy technique.
Danilov created the Znaki school in 2012, and Chitay-Gorod stood witness to its first steps. Today the school is based in Dialog Cultural Centre and hosts two groups of various age and skill. The programme lasts for an academic year (September to December and January to May respectively) and is designed for a year. Yet many students have been taking classes in Znaki for three (!) years now.
“We don’t limit ourselves to pen and ink only”, says Mikhail Danilov, school manager. “We also actively employ hair brushes, watercolours and aquarelle colour pencils. The artists in our school are of various ages and temper – some are very energetic and hot, while the others are incredibly meditative. Creative preferences vary no less – one may have sweeping, bold and quick manner, and another will do it patiently and consciously. Yet there is a lot in common too: they love writing and painting more than anything else in the world. An infinite harmony of the world, magnificent black on white, tender flickering lines and incredible depth of a suddenly emerging colour shine from every canvas. Moreover, the process is not only about calligraphy and painting; the students are also active participants of city events and permanent members of the Night of Art (Novgorod State Museum Reserve), the White Night of Art (Dialog Cultural Centre) and Biblionight (Chitay-Gorod Library Centre).
The anniversary exhibition of Znaki runs until November 29 and welcomes all ages.
