The Art, Graphics, Calligraphy exhibition is devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 90th birthday of the artist and the 70th anniversary of Vladimir Popov’s work.
Vladimir Popov was born on June 24th , 1924 in Mariupol, Donetsk Region. From 1941-1945, he took part in the Great Patriotic War. In 1951, Vladimir Popov graduated from the Kazan Art School. After that he worked at the Tatar Creative and Production Center by the USSR Art Foundation and participated in multiple international, all-Russian, regional, republic-wide and personal exhibitions.
By putting himself on edge and perceiving time, the artist finds those topics and means of artistic expression, which appear to be the most efficient in order to reflect his own discoveries and thoughts on art. In order to make those discoveries, the artist once turned to the eastern art of calligraphy and proceeded to explore its philosophic depths. He became an unquestionable master in that area, gaining a remarkable reputation in the global community of calligraphers and orientalists. The master takes fonts and transforms them to create peculiar compositions. Tughras of the artist devoted to this or that person reflect their character, energy, name and personality.
In the last 20 years, the artist has created over 500 calligraphic compositions. He is inspired by the ancient art of Arabic calligraphy and strives to combine Western and Eastern cultures, their modern manifestation and achievement. His pieces are neat yet expressive. They are monumental and epic, deep and are a seamless combination of the artistic culture of the past and contemporary art. At the exhibition, the artist will present forty-two calligraphy pieces.
All in all, the exhibition includes 90 pieces created by the artist that were created throughout the whole period of his work (1957-2014), these include some examples of fine art, easel graphic pieces (lino print pieces, pieces created with watercolors and banners) and calligraphy pieces.
The exhibition is open for the guests from April 25th, 2015 to June 1st , 2015.
