A Luhansk Oblast Student Develops Calligraphy Teaching Software

Dmitry Shevchenko, a 4-th year IT student from the town of Rovenki, Luhansk Oblast, has developed a programme that can instruct on calligraphic handwriting. Instead of the deft hand of the mentor, the programme is writing out the letters of its own accord while a virtual fairy-tale hedgehog helps you memorize all the elements. A melodious voice gives clear instructions on how to write this or that letter in a copybook.

The author of the programme said he kept consulting his school teachers. It is on their advice that he attributed different colors to vowels and consonants, introduced some animation and a voiced step-by-step commentary for the whole writing process.

«All in all it took me about three months. The soundtrack turned out to be the most laborious task. It was not easy to find a good reader for considerably big portions of text. No we are adding some finishing touches, synchronizing the letters to later deliver the stuff right to the schools, hot and ready,» Dmitry said. The young genius studies at of the Rovenki branch of the Luhansk National University.

The new software has already been highly appreciated by experts. Dmitry Shevchenko’s invention is scheduled to be implemented in not only the Luhansk Oblast, but also all across Ukraine upon approval from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. The author has agreed to distribute his brainchild for free.
