The Chinese Gohua Painting exhibition brought about by the art foundation of the Shushenskoye Open Air Museum will open August 16 on the second floor of the Republican Museum and Cultural Centre of the Khakass Republic.
26 ink paintings by the Chinese-Russian artist Chiang Shilung. The museum inherited a collection of the artist’s works from the Shushenskoye art gallery named after its founder Ivan Rehlov. The works to be exhibited are in calligraphy and or Gohua (Asian ink paintings), modernized by the artist with elements taken from the European painting tradition.
Chiang’s art is a vivid demonstration of the Chinese traditions of landscape painting, its philosophical essence, the bond between calligraphy and painting in the art of this ancient culture. The master created his works in the traditional ‘Mountain-and-Water’ and Bird-and-Flower’ genres, as well as calligraphy, watercolour and ink on silk and rice paper paintings. Tradition is the key notion in Chinese art: it fills both pictorial art and poetry with deep meanings and messages over a thousand years old.
Chiang Shilung’s works are held by major global museums: Louvre, the State Hermitage, State Museum of Oriental Art, and other renowned museums, public and private galleries.
The exhibition opens August 16, at 4 pm. The Republican Museum and Cultural Centre of the Khakass Republic is located: Pushkina, 28 A, Abakan, Khakass Republic, Russia.
