From the Birchbark Manuscript to the Printed Book exhibition from the Novgorod United Museum Preserve will open in Rybinsk Museum Preserve on May, 25.
The exposition will showcase historical written texts. In particular, citizens of Rybinsk will have a chance to see the famous birchbark writings scribbled by the boy Onfim, learn about Novgorod Psalter, the oldest Russian book dating the first quarter of the 11th century, and about the centers of book writing in the Novgorod lands.
Besides, visitors will get a chance to learn more about the development of book culture in the Rybinsk region.
The exposition will also feature memorial objects from A.I. Musin-Pushkin’s estate. There will also be a chance to try their hand at calligraphy, using the ancient writing instruments: cerae and stylus.
