The handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation was demonstrated at the International Exhibition of Calligraphy in Saint-Petersburg

The one and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation was presented at the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, launched today in the Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture of St. Petersburg. In the organizers' opinion, it is made to revive domestic culture of writing traditions and encourage its future development.

The total number of exhibits exceeds 350 works by the best representatives of a variety of calligraphy schools from 24 countries. Among them are the most fascinating, yet unexplored, samples of Slavic writing, historical manuscripts from all over the world, rare letters and documents, belonging to the Romanovs, the noble family of Russia, and taken from the vaults of the State Historical Museum. The visitors will see an excellent gallery of rare, scarce and unseen manuscripts and miniature books from private collections and distinct samples of applied calligraphy.

The exclusive handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation was executed by a group of calligraphers in collaboration with publishers. The outstanding work is considered to be a symbol of Russia’s rebirth and its statehood, a huge milestone in the domestic book publishing industry.

According to ITAR-TASS, news agency, the exhibition project is supported by the President of the Russian Federation’s administration, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the government of Saint-Petersburg, leading scientific organizations, libraries and museums of the country, and the World Club of Petersburgers. Around 40 Russian and foreign calligraphers will give master-classes for students, pupils and orphan children within the exhibition programme.
